- The World’s Most Practical and Dynamic International Motor Show Certified by OICA
The Seoul Motor Show is the only biennial international motor show held in Korea certified by OICA (the Organization Internationale des Constructeurs d’ Automobiles). The 7th exhibition is presented by a total of 158 companies from 9 different countries (124 domestic companies and 34 foreign companies).
Under the theme of “Beautiful Technology, Wonderful Design,” the Seoul Motor Show 2009 exhibits passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, auto parts, and other automotive commodities. Through this international event, visitors will be able to have a clear view of the global trend of auto industry, the principles of automobiles and the latest automotive technologies—all at one sight.
- Waves of eco-friendly, high efficiency, economy cars
With a total of 23 premiere models at the Seoul Motor Show 2009, there are 9 world premiere models it shows the reserved strength of Korean automotive industry reinforcing research and development even during the economic downturn. In addition, 5 new models are presented for the first time in Asia, 9 new models for the first time in Korea.
Many of the new models are eco-friendly, high efficient, economic, energy saving cars, hybrid cars, fuel cell cars and electric cars. These new models are expected to spark interest of consumers about the so-called “green cars”.
Exhibition of eco-friendly green cars tripled to 31 models, reflecting the global interest in eco-friendly cars and the futuristic trend of automobiles.
1. An abundance in new car models from both domestic and foreign automobile manufacturers
The World Premiere models are: eco-friendly medium sized concept car HND-4(Blue-Will) and Avante LPI Hybrid by Hyundai Motor; full sized concept car KND-5(VG Concept Car), Forte LPI Hybrid and XM, a sequence model of Sorento, by KIA Motors. Ssangyong Motor is exhibiting a CUV concept car C200 for the first time in the world, and Renault Samsung Motors is also exhibiting eMX(RSM Concept Car) and New SM3. Among all, KIA will be holding a launching show for XM at the Seoul Motor Show 2009.
As for the Asia Premiere models, Hyundai Motor is presenting their concept car HED-6(ix-onic) and GM Daewoo is presenting a global compact car as a Successor to the Matiz and Chevrolet Volt, which has already been an issue as an electric-charge concept car. In addition, Lexus IS250C, and Ford Mustang are shown for the first time in Asia at the Seoul Motor Show 2009.
As of the Korea premiere models, Toyota, as their first participation in the Seoul Motor Show and pre-entrance to the Korean market, presents their main models including Camry Hybrid, Prius and RAV4. Besides Toyota, Mercedez-Benz GLK-Class, Audi Q5 2.0 TDI, Lexus RX450h, Lincoln MKZ, Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line 1.4 TSI, and Honda Insight are unveiled for the first time in Korea.
2. A Variety of Concept Cars showing the future of automobiles
14 concept cars are exhibited at the Seoul Motor Show 2009 to offer a look into the future of the auto industry. Hyundai Motor unveils the world’s first medium sized concept car HND-4(Blue-Will) and also a Tuscon sequence compact SUV concept car HED-6(ix-onic). KIA Motors presents full sized sedan concept car KND-5(VG Concept Car), KCD-4(Forte coupe), KED-5(kia NO3), KND-5(Soul’ster), and KCD-5. Ssangyong Motor displays a CUV version concept car C200 for the first time in the world. Renault Samsung Motors exhibits their independently-developed and manufactured RSM Concept Car. KAIST presents a super-compact, super-light, super-high efficient 2 passenger concept car ZEROE, which is very exceptional for an academic institution to display their product at the motor show.
Toyota reveals their personal mobility concept car i-REAL, a well-being concept car RiN, and a hybrid sports concept car FT-HS. Also, Honda unveils their sports hybrid concept car CR-Z, showing the unique futuristic car concepts of Japanese automotive companies.
3. An exhibition of state-of-art eco-friendly cars, showing the perfect harmony of man and automobiles
As clean, eco-friendly, energy saving cars are the newly arousing trend of the global automotive trend, the Seoul Motor Show 2009 exhibits many hybrid cars presented by Korean automobile manufacturers including Hyundai Motor, KIA Motors, GM Daewoo, and Ssangyong Motor and Japanese automobile manufacturers including Toyota and Honda. The hybrid cars exhibited at the motor show are already under production or set to be manufactured. The prelude of the competition in the hybrid market is the zest that makes the show all more special and interesting.
Hyundai Motor exhibits a mass of eco-friendly cars starting with their Avante LPI Hybrid , which is set to be manufactured in the second half this year, Santafe Hybrid, Verna Hybrid, Click Hybrid, and Tuscon Fuel Cell Electronic Vehicle. KIA Motors exhibits Forte LPI Hybrid, Mohave FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle), Soul Hybrid, and cee’d Hybrid. GM Daewoo presents their electric vehicle Volt and Chevrolet Equinox, a hydrogen fuel electric car which only exhausts steams without air pollutant materials since it does not use oil fuel. Ssangyong Motor shows their Kyron diesel hybrid car and diesel hybrid technology bare chassis.
Hyundai Motor Commercial presents theire Fuel Cell Bus, and CT&T presents a total of 7 eco-friendly models including e-ZONE and e-ZONE FCHEV.
Toyota presents the world’s first hybrid car, Prius, and Camry Hybrid, which is expected to be launched in the Korean market in the second half of 2009. Toyota is also boasting its technology and promoting public’s awareness of hybrid car system by displaying Prius’ cut body version. Lexus prepared a separate hybrid zone to exhibit their hybrid line-ups including their premium cross-over sedan RX450h, flagship model LS600hL, and luxury sports sedan GS450h, along with the official launching of RX450h. GS450h Cutaway will also be displayed in the zone. Honda shows Insight, loved for its impressive fuel efficiency and reasonable price since its launch in February, and Civic Hybrid. Honda’s CR-Z, a sports concept car, is also a hybrid model.
4. An Instinct to Drive – Coupe/Sports Cars
As Korean consumers become more interested in coupe and sports cars, the Seoul Motor Show 2009 presents a variety of coupe and sports cars. Hyundai Motor exhibits Genesis Coupe and KIA Motors shows their KCD-4(Forte coupe) as a concept car. Lexus unveils their coupe-style IS250C for the first time in Asia and Volkswagen displays their 4-door Coupe CC 2.0 TDI model, which ideally accepted merits from both sedan and coupe, and their hard-top convertible Eos, a combination of coupe and cabriolet. Audi shows one of their sports car line-ups, new Audi TTS Roadster, which is expected to be in the Korean market around the first half of 2009, and a full-size touring coupe, new Audi A5 2.0 TFSI quattro. Also, Mercedes-Benz presents their SL 63 AMG and Ford displays Mustang. In addition, Honda's next generation compact sports hybrid concept car CR-Z and Toyota's hybrid sports concept car FT-HS will be shown at the show.
