‘Bangkok Fashion Week 2005 moves ahead’
The Bangkok Fashion City Campaign, headed by the Ministry of Industry, is building up intensity, with the launch of the Bangkok Fashion Week, one of 11 projects under the Bangkok Fashion City banner. A press conference was held on 2 June 2005 at the Conrad Hotel’s Ballroom, to announce the event, with designers of 20 leading brands on hand to present their fashion, accessories and leatherwear creations as a preview of the grand event which will be held in August this year.
Chairman Ponlawat Sookcharus together with Managing Director Anna Limpichart of AV Projects Co.,Ltd. who handle Bangkok Fashion Week, explained the objectives of the event, saying, “The aim of Bangkok Fashion Week is to upgrade the image of the Thai fashion industry in all three sectors, namely, the textile and garment industry, the gems and jewellery industry and the shoe and leatherwear industry to be the leader in the region. Furthermore, the Bangkok Fashion Week project aims to promote Thai products and give them a brand identity that will allow them to gain acceptance in the world market. That should allow Thailand to become the centre of quality fashion trade in the region. The first Bangkok Fashion Week that will be held this August will be the proclamation that Thailand is ready to propel itself into the world stage in terms of fashion.”
Bangkok Fashion Week 2005 is considered Thailand’s first major fashion event that is of international standard, and supported by the government sector with the cooperation of the private sector in all three fashion industries: textile and garment, gems and jewellery, and leather goods. The event will take place over two periods according to the fashion seasons. The first event will be held between 17-21 August 2005, and the second between 15-19 March 2006. Both events will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and Benjakitti Park.

The event will be outstanding because it brings together Catwalk Shows as well as trade shows. The Catwalk Shows will feature two segments: the main catwalk show highlights leading designers of established brands who will present their creations
under a Fashion Dome set up in the middle of the Water Garden, Benjakitti Park. The independent catwalk shows, on the other hand, highlight the work of younger, up-and-coming designers including students of fashion institutes around the country whose work is outstanding and unique. They will present their creations in the Plenary Hall of the QSNCC.
Thai designers have come out in force in support of the Catwalk Show of Bangkok Fashion Week 2005, including Nagara, Metta, Issue, Grey, Senada, Kloset, Anurak, Zenith, Tube Gallery, Fly Now, Mae Fah Luang, S318 (Kornkanok) AB-Normal, and Tango. Also gracing the Catwalk Show will be the creations of H.R.H. Princess Sirivannavarinariratana which will inaugurate the catwalk series on the opening day.
Equally impressive will be the Trade Fair which will take place over the same period. August 17-18 will be reserved for Trade-to-Trade discussions, while the fair will be open to the public on 19-21 August. Outstanding designs from all three sectors of the industry will be exhibited in a separate section called “Designers Showcase” that represents the best of Thai design to the world. Other sections of the Trade fair will present design works by students of various fashion design institutes, with consultations offered to those interested in studying in this field.
To provide a more solid base for fashion entrepreneurs and the general public, there will also be seminars call “Fashion Talk” led by specialists in the fashion industry, both local and international.
Enhancing the image of Thai gems and jewellery will be the Jewelry Gala Night which will highlight the outstanding creativity and craftsmanship of Thai jewellers that are
acknowledged by the world market. Attending the event, which will take place at the Grand Ballroom QSNCC on 18 August 2005, will be invited industry professionals as well as media. To allow industry members and the media to meet and exchange opinions in an informal atmosphere, and to celebrate the cooperation between the public and private sectors in bringing the Bangkok Fashion Week to fruition, a Bangkok Fashion Week After Party will be held on 21 August 2005 under a giant and elaborate tent.
The press conference not only allowed organisers to announce the objectives of the project and details of the upcoming event, it also allowed over 20 designers who will be taking part in the event to preview their fashion creations.
The Bangkok Fashion Week receives full-handed supports from Thai Leathergoods Association, Thai Garment Manufacturers Association, Gem and Jewelry Industry Club as well as the kind corporation from renowned and young designers who bring their imaginations to the real fashion creations.
The Bangkok Fashion Week will be a major thrust to showcase Thai designers on the world stage. It will encourage Thai designers to create their own brand identities. The success of the event depends on the total joint effort between the public and private sectors.
*** บันทึกท้ายเล่ม – Bangkok Fashion Week มี 2ครั้ง คือ 2005 และ 2006 ในโครงการกรุงเทพเมืองแฟชั่น และได้มีความพยายามใส่งานนี้เข้าไปในตารางแฟชั่นวีคโลก ถ้าได้มีการจัดต่อเนื่องครั้งที่ 3 ครั้งที่ 4 เชื่อว่า แฟชั่นไทย จะไปไกลกว่าเกาหลี ซึ่งตอนนั้นเริ่มช้ากว่าไทย แต่ตอนนี้ขึ้นตารางโลกที่ต้องเยือนไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว
ประวัติศาสตร์ถูกเขียนโดยผู้ชนะ จึงไม่แปลกที่จะหาเรื่องราวไม่ได้อีกแล้ว แต่แฟชั่นไม่น่าเกี่ยวกัน ควรแยกให้ออกว่า ผลงานของไทยนั้น สมควรส่งต่อให้กับคนที่รักแฟชั่นอย่างแท้จริง และให้เป็นหน้าหนึ่งในประวัติศาสตร์
สำหรับตัวผมนั้น ได้เริ่มต้นถ่ายแฟชั่นงานแรกก็คือ Bangkok Fashion Week 2005 ซึ่งก็ยังไม่ค่อยอยากโชว์ภาพให้ดู (ขายหน้า) สภาพแสงต่างกับงานถ่ายภาพทั่วไปอย่างมาก ตอนนั้นต้องเรียกเดินฝึกหัดเดิน และได้เข้าเก็บภาพทุกโชว์ แต่ไม่ได้ภาพครบทุกโชว์ บางโชว์ก็ถ่ายไม่ได้จริงๆ อยู่ขอบของขอบนักข่าวอีกที ไม่มีที่ประจำ ซึ่งยังจำได้เป็นอย่างดี และเริ่มรู้จักพี่หนู TV Pool พี่จอร์จ หญิงไทย ก็งานนี้ รวมถึงรุ่นพี่นักข่าวหลายๆคน (จีบไว้ก่อน) สำหรับครั้งแรกปี 2005 เมื่อเสร็จงาน นอนไข้กินไป 7วัน (แบบลุกไม่ขึ้น) เพราะอากาศร้อนและเย็น รอนานมาก (นางแบบจำกัด ล้างหน้าแต่งหน้าไม่ทัน) กลับบ้านสลบทุกวัน พอถึงปี 2006 จึงถ่ายวันเว้นวัน ถนอมตัวมากหน่อย จึงได้ไม่ครบทุกโชว์
นักข่าวช่างภาพต่างชาติไม่ค่อยแฮปปี้กับเรานะ เพราะเขาก็รอนาน และไม่รู้หมายกำหนดการเลย มาเจอโชว์ปิดของ Flynow นักข่าวขยับขึ้นบนหมด เพราะนางแบบเดินบนนั่งร้าน นักข่าวต่างชาติไม่รู้อะไรเลย งอนพวกเรากันหมด
ผมเป็นพวกมองโลกแง่ดี และหวังว่าอะไรจะดีขึ้น แต่แฟชั่นวีคอันต่อๆมา ไม่ได้ตอบโจทย์ประเทศ เพียงตอบโจทย์หนังสือ กับห้าง ซึ่งก็ว่าเขาไม่ได้ เพราะพลังขับเคลื่อนหรือน้ำมันหล่อลื่น จากภาครัฐไม่ได้เข้ามาช่วยเหลือแบบจริงๆจังๆ มาแบบแว๊บๆขอไปที กลัวๆกล้าๆ
