For the sixth consecutive year, sporting products company Grand Sport has hosted an annual design contest with the goal of providing young local talent with a creative platform as well as the real-world training they need to break into the sports-apparel industry. The 6th Grand Sport Young Designer Contest has reached the final round of competition, with 12 finalists out of more than 300 contestants vying for the top prize. Results are slated to be announced today at an event featuring an exhibition and a fashion show of the finalists’ entries, at Crystal Design Center, by Ramintra-Ajnarong Expressway.

Thiti Pluckchaoom, Grand Sport Group Co., Ltd., general director and chairman of the contest’s organizing committee, says that the company has hosted the contest every year since 2004 with the goal of providing local students with a platform for expressing their creativity through sports apparel design. In addition to helping young designers gain entry into the industry, the contest also helps promote public interest in sports-related activities, says Thiti.

“This year the organizing committee aims to promote ideas that can improve quality of life and lead to sustainable happiness,” says Grand Sport’s general director. “Of particular emphasis is a body-mind balance which can serve as protection against the influx of materialistic trends, so that individuals and society can move forward in a smart, happy and dignified way. We also want to raise pubic awareness of the health benefits of sports and exercise, so we chose ‘Body & Mind’ as the theme of the contest, with focus on designs that are both attractive and wearable in real life.”

Of the 313 entries sent in by students from around the country, the judges have selected 12 for the final competition, including six each for the women’s and men’s sports apparel categories.
